City Fox

Posted by
Christine (Ellemford, United Kingdom) on 15 September 2011 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Not a great quality as shot through the car window about 5.30 in the afternoon. It always amazes me how different city foxes are to the country foxes which have big bushy tails and look healthy unlike this fox.

I'm very much an amateur photographer. I live in the hills of the Scottish Borders which has fantastic flora and fauna, as well as wonderful light.

...and you would have thought that with all those lovely bins, the urban foxes would have the better condition....

@CElliottUK: A country fox looks soooo different. Most city foxes I have seen are in a poor state and like this one I would guess, has mange

You are right on how scraggy the city foxes get to look . . makes us city-folk feel a tad better about ourselves !

Poor fox, must be hard for him to find scraps to eat. They are such beautiful
animals, very timid. Wonderful capture.

I feel the same when I see the odd one around here, usually very late at night, They are so skinny and scrawny.

Oh poor, hungry looking fox - it should come to Greenock as the city foxes here seem to do much better... I saw one this week - it was fat and it's tail was very fluffy, but my camera was in the bag and the fox was faster than I so didn't get a shot of it.

Image Quality is such a fleeting and subjective phrase - I love this image, personally! This poor little guy looks frightened and, at the same time, very cute (is it ok for men to say words like "adorable" and "cute"...sorry, I do ;-) He does look a bit hungry...but a great capture by you. Christine, thank you very much for all of your comments on my past images! That was really kind of you to do that - You certainly did not need to ...But I am most grateful...Thanks so much ;-)

I never knew there was any difference...? I once saw a fox about 3AM just walking along the street... it was quite big too.

respect for getting him from the car window! I noticed the same here - the city foxes usually look very poor against the country ones - but i guess it´s their diet (how would we look if only feeding on bins and rats^^)
