About To Fledge

Posted by Christine (Ellemford, United Kingdom) on 15 July 2012 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

This is the last of my chaffinch photos, I knew they were near to fledging and the next morning they were gone. I had expected to see them around, being fed by the adults but no. I like to think they were safe and had not been got by all the various wild life around us. See the first photo here

I'm very much an amateur photographer. I live in the hills of the Scottish Borders which has fantastic flora and fauna, as well as wonderful light.

Good to see them just about to make there way out to the big wide world. I've been meaning to ask, any owl action this year?

15 Jul 2012 10:51am

@CElliottUK: great excitement, there is a barn owl around, we have spotted it a number of times now, we need it to find a mate. Hasn't been a great summer for them with all this rain.

cute shot ! it s always nice to have the luck to watch a nest easely like that, and of course, it s important to advise for the people who come there to keep enougth distance and to stay shot time in their surround to avoid to disturb them, bye
