A Lesser Signal iphone User

Posted by Christine (Ellemford, United Kingdom) on 7 April 2012 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Still on the Discovery Mull Tour www.discovermull.co.uk .
Spotted a rare iphone user in Mull (Large lack of signal!)

Nikon D60 1/60 second F/11.0 ISO 100 82 mm (35mm equiv.)

mull

I'm very much an amateur photographer. I live in the hills of the Scottish Borders which has fantastic flora and fauna, as well as wonderful light.

Richard from Ellemford, United Kingdom

I do think I blended in pretty well! Actually, at that point there was a signal, the last one until about 5.30 pm, this being 10.30 am. All sorts of things were going on in the outside world and I was like an astronaut on the dark side of the moon, except I was on the far side of Mull!

k@ from Paris, France

Ha, your hero in the Pause mode to let you shoot him in this great place (what did you do with the processing ? Sorry, you know me, i'm for natural and just wonder why you accentuated it so much, if you permit i ask).

@k@: At that point it was such a grey day and I wanted to lift it a bit :)

The Mouse from Glasgow, United Kingdom

Ahh, have still to explain this to Mr E.
Love his expression "It's that woman again!"

@The Mouse: We should have left a marker for him at the few signal spots :)

Nigel from Avening, United Kingdom

It's amazing how this species is slowly adapting to the rural environment. Initially they spread out from the cities to the smaller towns and villages. It's not unusual to find them in isolated areas of the countryside. However, they are not yet resident in these areas, as they are dependent on a source of electricity. I reckon that they will soon take up residence in the wilder parts of the country, as solar power becomes more readily available. The same thing applies to another species - the photographer. Clearly you've managed to capture a shot of a rare hybrid The Lesser Signal i Phone Snapper. Doesn't it blend in well with it's surroundings? Well done, you have the patience of a saint.

@Nigel: We have no signal at home, so still know how to use a landline unlike most of our friends!

Veronique from France, Switzerland

I like the colors and the back ground

Nigel, it's me who has the patience, waiting for a signal!

Arhh! Panic! What, no signal! Sheeeesh! Mouse and I are gonna have to cancel! Seriously-a question, is it really that bad? Do they have public Wi-Fi in pubs and coffee shops?

7 Apr 2012 8:21am

@CElliottUK: Richard is posting an answer on your own page! Have you ever been anywhere this remote before? Ever been to the Highlands and Islands?

ursulakatariina from Leixlip, Ireland

Mull seems to be really beautiful place.
You were lucky to catch this Lesser Signal i Phone Snapper. :)

Sally from Glasgow, United Kingdom

i can feel chris panicking from here! welcome to scotland.

7 Apr 2012 8:51am

@Sally: Exactly, we have no signal where we live!

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

No, I never have been that far North before. I had just assumed that whilst it is a complete pain to put landlines into remote areas, wi-fi and mobile signals are much easier to install, so that's what would have happened. Hmm, I'm gonna have to think through my workflow on the Island(In terms of posting pics on AM3), a new challenge

Slackwater - Don from Spokane, United States

A nice informal picture of this special person. I like the processing you did to enhance the shot.

Michael Fresh from Chester, United Kingdom

He matches the background colours very well, it looks a primaeval sort of place. Happy Easter.

7 Apr 2012 2:52pm

@Michael Fresh: It is :)

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

A rare one indeed, nicely captured. Are they timid and run off quickly when they hear a noise or did you have time to line up the shot ?

7 Apr 2012 3:17pm

@Doug: I had time, he was concentrating!

Naa-ila from Cape Town, South Africa

the different colours are cool.
